New art & cacao artist: Nina Pace X Wild Child Cacao

We are absolutely in love with the work of our latest cacao artist: Nina Pace. her flowery work for wild child cacao breathes hope and joy, all that we long for in the midst of wintertime, don't you think? Now let's get to know nina a little bit:

Can you give us a small introduction of yourself, your passion for illustrating and art and especially……  your passion for flowers? 🙂

My name is Nina Pace and I’m an illustrator living just outside of New York City. I’ve considered myself an artist my whole life–I was always drawing, painting, and creating as a child and still am today.

It’s just something I have to do! Nature has always been my biggest inspiration–the shapes, colors, and patterns are just too incredible! And yes, flowers are the ultimate inspiration. I’m endlessly awestruck by them.

Your work seems to be inspired by art nouveau with its flowers, symmetry, and decorative nature. Can you tell us something about your style and influences?

Yes! I’ve always been fascinated by pattern design, even when I didn’t realize it. I used to be a much more figurative oil painter, but I’d always include decorative patterns in the background of my paintings.

One thing led to another and then I finally started forgoing the “foreground painting” altogether and went straight to the decorative parts. I’m really inspired by the work of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement of his time.

What’s the biggest compliment you ever received about your work?

I’ve had some really nice people tell me that my art has brightened their day and honestly that brings me so much joy!

Tell us something about the artwork you created for us!

I had the most fun working on this piece for Wild Child Cacao! All of my work is created by painting digitally these days, which is great because it really allows me to play with color combinations before I start the final piece.

Before sketching, we had discussed creating a piece that was bright and cheerful, so I was really excited to dive in! Drinking cacao while working was incredible! It was so delicious and flavorful, and it made me feel energized while I painted.

It was also really fun to be drinking the cacao while researching the cacao plant, fruit, and flowers to draw in the design.

How does it feel to be printed on a box of cacao? After many pillows and textiles?

It’s really so exciting! I love getting to work with creative companies and the ladies of Wild Child Cacao are just the best! I love everything about the brand, including the delicious chocolate, so it’s been a great experience!

You are a pretty successful and respected illustrator. What is your secret to create your wildest dreams?

Aw, that’s so kind of you to say, thank you! I think my secret is no secret at all, just good old-fashioned perseverance. I draw and paint almost every single day, and I’ve been doing so for years. So I think the secret is to never give up!
