Why you should drink cacao before a meal. And why you should not.

Did you know that back in Aztec times, cacao was often enjoyed at the end of a banquet, together with tobacco? Just as nowadays a classic dinner ends with coffee and a liqueur.

EXPERIENCE CACAO TO THE FULLEST
Of course, there is one very good reason to drink your cacao before having a big meal: the active components in cacao will be absorbed faster and the effect on your body is much stronger.

If you want to experience the power of cacao, especially during a cacao ceremony, then make sure you don’t eat t least two hours before ceremony. Or eat a light meal. Add a little chili pepper to your cacao to speed up the absorption process!

CAN YOU DRINK CACAO ON AN EMPTY STOMACH?
Yes you can. Try 15 grams first and see how your body responds. The theobromine in cacao can kick in strong! Make sure you drink enough water afterward. Because cacao contains 50% fat, it could feel heavy on the stomach for some people. Others love to kickstart their day with a cacao moment, having a cup of cacao, setting intentions and practicing mindfulness.

CACAO AS DESSERT
Yet sometimes, we like to drink our chocolate as if it was an espresso, ‘digestif’ or even better: a dessert, adding a big spoon of honey.
